No More Slipping or Sliding –

Discover the Freedom of Implant-Retained Dentures

The implant-retained denture is a modern solution for anyone struggling with loose or uncomfortable dentures. Instead of relying on suction or adhesives, this treatment uses a small number of dental implants — only two to four — to stabilise your denture.

At the heart of the design is a clever “snap-in” connection, which makes the implant-retained dentures so secure. Small implants in your jaw connect to ball or bar attachments, and your denture simply clicks into place.

This connection prevents slipping and rocking, so you can eat, speak, and smile comfortably—without the need for messy adhesives. Although the denture can still be removed for easy cleaning, it feels much more stable and natural than a traditional plate.

An implant-retained denture is a practical, minimally invasive way to restore confidence, comfort, and control—helping you enjoy everyday life again with a smile that truly feels your own.

💤 Gentle, Relaxed Dentistry — Even for the Most Anxious Patients

For many patients, the decision to get dental implants is a significant step toward a complete, healthy smile. However, the thought of the surgical procedure can cause intense anxiety or fear.

How IV Sedation Transforms Your Implant Experience

IV sedation provides the ultimate calming way to receive complex dental care without stress or discomfort. Instead of enduring the procedure, you simply relax through it.

  • Profound Relaxation: You'll feel deeply tranquil and at ease throughout your entire implant appointment.

  • Minimal Memory: You'll have little to no memory of the procedure afterward, essentially waking up to a completed smile transformation.

  • Optimal Safety: Your treatment is managed collaboratively by our caring dental team and a qualified anaesthetist who remains with you throughout the procedure, ensuring your safety and comfort are continuously monitored.

Whether your implant needs are complex or you simply find any surgery overwhelming, IV sedation makes it possible to receive your dental implants gently, safely, and with total peace of mind. Your journey to a stronger, more confident smile can now be entirely stress-free and empowering.

Our Implant-Retained Denture Process

1. Comprehensive Consultation and Assessment

Your journey begins with a detailed evaluation. We use advanced 3D imaging (CBCT scans) to precisely assess the volume and density of your jawbone. This data allows us to identify the optimal locations for the implants, ensuring we maximize existing bone structure.

2. Personalized Treatment Planning

Based on your assessment and goals, we create a customized plan that defines:

  • The exact number (typically 2 to 4) and position of the implants.

  • The type of attachment system (e.g., ball or bar) best suited for your stability needs.

  • The design of your final overdenture.

  • All associated timeframes and costs.

3. Implant Placement Surgery

During a single surgical appointment, we place the minimal number of titanium implants into the jawbone. Because this procedure is less invasive than a fixed bridge solution, it can often be completed with local anesthesia, though sedation is available to ensure your comfort. Crucially, in many cases, we can fit your existing or a new overdenture with the attachments immediately, allowing you to leave with an immediately stabilized denture on the same day.

4. Healing and Osseointegration

Over the next three months, the implants will fuse securely with your jawbone through osseointegration. This essential healing phase locks the implants into place, creating the strong, permanent anchors needed for retention. We’ll monitor your progress during follow-up visits and may make temporary adjustments to your denture to ensure optimal healing.

5. Final Overdenture Delivery

Once the implants are fully integrated and stable, we deliver your final, custom-made overdenture. This appliance is meticulously crafted for a perfect fit, optimal comfort, and a natural appearance. It will easily snap into place on the implant attachments, giving you the security and confidence to eat, speak, and smile without the worry of slippage.

Implant-Retained Denture FAQs

How is an implant denture different from a regular denture?

An implant-retained denture is a removable full denture that uses a small number of dental implants (usually two to four per arch) as stable anchors.

Unlike a traditional denture, which rests on your gums and uses adhesive, the denture "snaps in" securely to the implants.

This eliminates slipping, rocking, and the need for messy glues, significantly improving comfort and function.

How many dental implants are required for an overdenture?

For the lower jaw:
Most patients need two dental implants to securely anchor a lower implant denture. This provides a dramatic improvement in stability and comfort compared to a traditional lower denture, which tends to move or slip due to limited natural suction.

For the upper jaw:
Because the upper jawbone is generally softer, four implants are typically recommended to ensure optimal support and long-term durability. This helps the denture remain stable and comfortable, especially when eating or speaking.

Is the implant-retained denture fixed or removable?

The implant-retained denture is removable. It is designed to be easily detached by the patient every day for thorough cleaning of both the denture and the implant attachments.

This makes hygiene simpler and is a key difference from a fixed full-arch bridge (like All-on-X). If you want to find out about fixed implants options, click the link below

An implant denture or a fixed All-on-X bridge?

An implant denture is a more affordable alternative to a fixed All-on-X bridge. It uses fewer implants to securely anchor a removable denture, making it an excellent solution for patients who:

1. Have experienced significant bone loss and want a treatment that typically requires less bone grafting or surgical complexity.

2. Prefer a removable option that allows for easy daily cleaning and maintenance.

3. Want improved stability and comfort compared to traditional dentures, but at a lower cost than a permanently fixed bridge.

Will I be without teeth during the healing period?

Absolutely not!

We typically convert your existing denture into a temporary denture on the day of surgery, or we provide you with a new temporary set.

This means you will leave our Newcastle clinic with functional teeth while your implants heal.

You will get a permanent implant denture once your implants have integrated after 3 months.

Who is a good candidate for this treatment?

The ideal candidate for implant-retained dentures are someone who is;

1. Frustrated with traditional dentures: Loose, uncomfortable dentures or reliance on adhesives? Implant-retained overdentures provide a secure, pain-free alternative.

2. Seeking a cost-effective solution: More stable than conventional dentures, less invasive and more affordable than a fixed All-on-X bridge.

3. Prefers a removable design: Ideal for those who want an implant-secured denture that’s easy to remove and clean daily.
