The Invisalign orthodontic treatment system is a generation away from the “metal mouth” of conventional braces. Teens, young adults and older adults can have a beautiful smile while making it nearly impossible to see the evidence. In fact, we offer a free smile simulation so you can have an advance look at your new smile. But Invisalign clear aligners have a number of other advantages conventional braces don’t.
Of all Invisalign treatment advantages, this one is probably top of the list for most people. You can take out the aligners to eat, clean your teeth or for a special occasion or photo. Whilst you still need to wear them 22 to 24 hours a day for the fastest and most effective treatment, going without them for a short period once in a while won’t cause any problems.
Removable aligners mean you don’t have to struggle to keep your teeth clean or risk breaking a wire as you do with conventional braces. You simply remove the aligner, brush and floss as you normally would, and pop the aligner back in. You can also clean the aligners, which helps keep your breath fresh.
Since Invisalign aligners don’t have to be tightened or adjusted like conventional braces, your appointments are quicker and you'll need less of them. Most people only need to come in about every six to eight weeks. The length of treatment may also be less with Invisalign clear aligners; it depends on the nature of your orthodontic problem.
Conventional braces mean food restrictions. Crisps, popcorn, nuts, hard candies and sticky sweets like toffee are off the menu for the duration. Since you can take the Invisalign aligner out during meals, however, you can eat whatever you want. However, do remember that a healthy diet means better tooth health as well.
Anyone who has experienced conventional orthodontic treatment can tell you those adjustment sessions can leave you aching for days. The wires and brackets also rub on your tongue and cheeks. Invisalign aligners are made from smooth plastic material – nothing to catch or rub. Nor will you need an emergency visit for a broken wire or bracket.
Conventional braces can make it more difficult to play a wind instrument such as a flute or trumpet. With Invisalign aligners, you can remove the aligner if necessary. When playing sports, braces and wires can cause nasty cuts if you take a ball to the face. Since Invisalign aligners are smooth, this isn’t a problem. You can also remove the aligners to wear a mouth guard.
